Very Young Engines by Estorianarmy321 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Here we have the first two engines of the Skarloey Railway at Crovan's Gate Yard sometime in the late 1860s, not too long after No. 1 "Skarloey" was rescued from a landslide by No. 2 "Rheneas." It is established here that it's that moment when Skarloey and Rheneas truly became the wonderful brothers we know and love.

In doing this, I started with Rheneas, wanting to draw the old engine as he would've looked without his cab. After doing this, I realized that with wanting to draw the two engines getting along, I would have to draw Skarloey with his cab, as he had it when they finally made up. I couldn't find when Rheneas received his cab, so I guess you could say this is very recently after "Stick in the Mud."

Also wanted to add in the S&M tracks next to the Crovan's Gate Yards, so we have one of the box tanks, halted next to the yard while the drive speaks with a SR company official and grey-haired foreman.

Hope you all enjoy this! I had a lot of fun drawing these two!
