Steam on the former CNOTP - Late May 2014 by evangaines on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

On the morning of May 31, 2014, we're on NS's former CNO&TP 2nd Division or better known as the Rathole Division, outside of Kings Mountain KY to chase Southern KS Consolidation #630 on the Lexington Limited Excursions for 21st Century Steam from Danville KY to Oneida TN & return. Soon, we caught the 630 & her 15 car train racing along at 40 mph, heading for Oneida. The locomotive was busy for the 2014 Season, with the Radford Rambler Excursion from Bristol to Radford VA on April 5, The Lonesome Pine Special Bristol to Bulls Gap TN on the 6th, & the Tri County Mountaineer from Grundy VA to Devon WV on the 12th-13th & 19th. Assisting the 630 on this trip is an Ex-Conrail SD40-2 & an Ex-N&W SD40-2 for Fuel Savings & Dynamic Braking. The train would arrive in Oneida, that afternoon, where the Consolidation would be turned & serviced. Today, the 630 is still operated by her home base, the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga TN, where she hauls the Museum's Trains including the Summerville Steam Special & Missionary Ridge Local alongside Sister Museum Locomotive, MS Mikado #4501.
