The Silver Palm through the Snow by evangaines on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

On the snowy afternoon of January 28, 2002, we're on CSX's South End Subdivision outside of Dillon SC at the Catawba River Crossing to chase trains. Soon, we caught Amtrak Train #90, the Southbound Silver Palm, from New York City NY to Miami FL. The train was running over 3 hours & 12 minutes behind schedule & is making up for lost time as it files over the Catawba River. The power is 2 P42DC's leading 4 Baggage Cars, a Crew Sleeper, 2 Viewliner I Sleepers, the Viewliner Diner Prototype #8400, an Amfleet Café Car, 4 Amfleet Coaches, Several MHC Boxcars, & 3 RoadRailers all bound for Miami. The train would reach Miami, the following day, while we headed to a local diner for lunch. Little did we know, this would be the last shot of the Silver Palm. 4 Months later, after the Sleepers & Dining Car were removed, the train would be renamed to it's previous name, the Palmetto. 2 years after that, the Route was cut from Miami to Savannah GA, which remains the Southern Terminus to this day.
