The Westbound Counterpart by evangaines on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Shortly after the Eastbound Super C had passed, we caught it's Westbound Counterpart from Chicago to LA. Like it's Eastbound Counterpart, the Westbound Super C was also running on time & is keeping to time behind the usual 4 SD45-2's which were geared for 90 mph running. Again, the Consist was 20 TTX F89F TOFC Flatcars full of trailers loaded with USPS Mail & Packages, this time, bound for LA. By this point, the Super C was hauling mainly Mail & Packages for the Holiday Season for the US Postal Service with Electronic devices or Autoparts thrown into the consist as well. Nevertheless, the Super C was an amazing site & a great venture for the ATSF. The Westbound Counterpart of the World's Fastest Freight Train would arrive in LA, the following morning, being 25 minutes early ahead of schedule. Unfortunately, The train would be discontinued 2 years later on 5/20/1976, after ATSF lost a bid on the Mail Contract to a joint venture with Union Pacific & Chicago & North Western on a competing 50 hour schedule at a lower cost. However, this train would give birth to ATSF's Hot 27 Intermodal Trains from Chicago to LA, Richmond, & Long Beach, which would continue to this day under BNSF, ATSF's Successor.
