Description

Here's my latest painting: It's a 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator on the corner of Lombard and Hyde Street of San Francisco, California circa 1970. To me, Hyde Street is one of the more unique vantage points in the city, because of the world famous SF Cable cars clicking and clattering up and down the street all day, it's close proximity to lombard street (that twisty windy street you often see in SF postcards), as well as the amazing view of Alcatraz and the whole bay area directly to the north. I decided to feature the 1970 Mercury Cougar in this painting for no reason specifically, but looking back at it, It feels right at home in the narrow and hilly streets of San Francisco, which is a city that is no stranger to classic muscle cars, thanks to the famous car chase scene from the 1968 film 'Bullitt'. As a small reference to the movie Bullitt, I've even included a green VW beetle parked in the background, because in the movie itself it was a background car of no plot significance that managed to re-appear over a dozen times on a nearly constant basis during 7 minute chase sequence.
