Luna- Construction Notes by FeelinPeachyKeen on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Alriiighty! Finally got a (FUCKING RAD) full shot of my Luna costume thanks to the lovely Sorairo Days!!! (sorairo-days.tumblr.com/)

So onto the construction notes! I will start with top of the costume and work my way down.

So, first up is wig~ I used a Luthien wig in Black from Arda Wigs (arda-wigs.com/products/luthien… that I curled in the same way I curled my Pinkie Pie wig (pikalachan.deviantart.com/art/…. I then took little Styrofoam balls from the craft store and covered them in wig fiber that I took from the long black wefts (also from Arda). I glued the wefts in place around the ball to form my odangos and once all four were covered, I attached them to the wig using hot glue (because I'm lazy). To get those Sailor Moon poofy bangs I followed this tutorial www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK9_-s…

The little moon on my head was just a layer of craft foam that I cut out into the shape of a moon and painted gold. Its held on to my skin with eyelash glue.

The ribbon I just made out of the left over yellow fabric from my dress. I used the fake bow tutorial to actually make the bow part and just attached the bow to collar portion. Snaps hold the collar on.

The moon necklace was just a chain I found at AC MOORE and the little moon shape was a wooden moon I also found at AC MOORE. I painted the moon gold to match the gold in the chain.

The dress was McCalls 6027. Little alteration was done to the pattern. All I did was narrow the straps a smidge and take cut each panel of the dress into a point-y shape so that the hem of my dress would look like a zig-zag, petal type shape.

The black puffs balls (front and back of dress) are made of organza and have maruboa centers. That way they look extra fluffy! I used this tutorial www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO5tkA… to make the fluffy, flower shape. But instead of cutting my layers into a round petal pattern, I cut them into a six sided star pattern (template I used 3.bp.blogspot.com/_lfXUHoxAbaI…. The folded petals are glued to a felt base and then that base has a pin attached to it so they could be easily attached or removed from the dress.

The organza underskirt train thingy of make of black organza. I used McCalls pattern 6701 to get that full high-low hem train. But I only made the skirt portion of the pattern. I simply guessed and cut at the waist line, added a waistband and put in some elastic so it would fit my waist better and give a little more gather to the panels. I used two layers of organza that are hemmed together at the base and all around the skirt.

Lastly, the little moon anklet was made from the same gold chain as the necklace and the tiny moon charm is also made of craft foam (two layers) painted gold.

I think that covers everything! If you have any questions, please feel free to pm me here or anywhere else I'm lurking on the internet!
