"Carrot! The heck is 'cheese'? Do you think I'm a rat or something?"
They're probably familiar to cheese, though. Especially the tourists feed them pretty much anything.
Notice the bright orange teeth. Despite what local mothers tell their children, coypus' teeth weren't originally white and didn't get nasty from not being brushed. (This seems to work on the kids, though.) They're naturally orange due to an iron-containing pigment in their enamel, which makes them tougher. The back side of their teeth doesn't have the orange layer, so it erodes faster and makes the teeth sharper. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
The question is... how can such freaky giant rodents with iron teeth be so cute at the same time?
