Background, Personality, and Relationships
Glistening Sunshine is the result of a tenuous and unhappy relationship between Sunburst and Starlight Glimmer. Shortly after their birth, Starlight suddenly left, abandoning a foal that never met their own mother and leaving with an identical twin Sunshine still isn’t aware of. The trauma and shame of that day prevented their dad from telling Sunshine about their past. The struggling dad had a rough time raising their foal, but he was fortunate to have Spearhead and the Crystal Empire’s royal family by his side. Over tine, Sunburst and Spearhead would eventually marry, tightening their bond.
As the child of the Crystal Empire’s magic adviser, Sunshine grew up close to the royal family. When Sunburst and Spearhead went outside the Empire, they would leave their little foal with Cadance and Shining Armor in their care. Since they were allowed to go in and out of the castle as they pleased, Sunshine considers the castle a second home and the princes and princesses as part of their family. Sunshine will affectionately call Flurry Heart their “auntie Flurry” and likens True Horizon to a blood brother. Ever since Sunshine began training as the next magic adviser, they have less free time to spend with the royal family.
Just like dear ol’ dad, Sunshine takes after Sunburst’s scholarly interest in magic. Similar to Starlight, their foal is magically proficient and takes a particular interest in healing and light spells. They have taken the title of the Crystal Empire’s Mage, regularly aiding sick ponies with their healing spells. It’s not uncommon to find Sunshine at local hospitals assisting patients caught in the unending snowstorms near the outskirts of the Empire.
Sunshine grew up in a very happy household surrounded by ponies that cared about them and supported them through and through. This infectiously cheerful and passionate pony couldn’t ask for a better life, but Sunshine can’t help but feel like their dads aren’t telling them something…
☆ Bonus ☆
- Sunshine was one half of twins I initially called Astra and Psyche. I have since scrapped their original characterizations for their current incarnations.
- Both twins were named by their mother. She purposely chose ludicrous sounding and lengthy names to make them sound important and powerful. This is common amongst unicorns.
- Back in high school, Sunshine studied Mage Meadowbrook’s works and even searched for her written work across Equestria. So far, Sunshine has uncovered 2 of Meadowbrook’s lost journals.
- Their scarf was lovingly crafted by Spearhead. It’s made of soft cashmere.
