Description
Takachiho raiway (高千穂鉄道) was a Japanese railway line operated between Nobeoka and Takachiho (Miyazaki prefecture). The railway was opened completely in 1972. The ralway line was one of the most scenic in Japan. Along Gokase-river, we could enjoy beautiful sceneries of river, gorge, mountain, and so on. The geography was so steep.
However, in September 2005, heavy rain from a typhoon swept away bridges and the railway was forced to halt operation. Due to the disaster, in 2009, the railway was liquidated.
So far, many infrastructures have been remained. Particular in Takachiho-area, we can walk and see remained infrastructures of the railway.
