Hatsune Miku PVC figurine by Goodsmile 01 by garion on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Hatsune Miku 1/8 scale PVC pre-painted figurine by Good Smile Company.

From a review of the figurine: "Hatsune Miku is a (female) vocal digital idol, an almost entirely fabricated character, with a voice bank designed for songs by a real female idol's voice. It was digitized for this use, and marketed as a product for a free user-base. The true charm of Miku is the fact that she can be whatever you wish her to be - she is nothing more than what you wish to make her out to be."

This was one of the earlier PVC scale models of Miku available commercially. Sculpted by YOSHI and released sometime in 2008 by Japan's Goodsmile Company, the figurine was a resounding success, banking on the virtual idol's sudden meteoric rise to fame. The first run was all snapped up by fans, leading to 2 subsequent re-releases, and this model has remained popular despite many other Miku figurines being released.

I think this figurine works because although simple, it has a certain quiet charm about it, in Miku's pose, expression and flowing hair, I think the sculptor captured the essence of Miku in this 3D representation of her extremely well. Ironically I pre-ordered the first run, then cancelled my order coz I had "cold feet", but belatedly realized the beauty and appeal of this figurine and I finally got her in August this year.

Thanks to Joel Lim for kindly loaning his figurine for this shoot....and for partly influencing my decision to get her. LOL. =D
