I was originally asked about this from a previous pic I did with Springtrap by regarding why the Night guard needed Ol' Springtrap to check the ventilation. The reason behind it was sometimes things don't work properly, and sometimes the tablet doesn't work, so you'd have Springtrap as the helper. On top of that, in terms of Springtrap not wanting the antagonist role, that part was because like with all actors that get that role, sooner or later they'll get tired of it, and want to play the good guy role.

As you can see, Springtrap is fixing the Ventilations with a wrench, and tightening a few loose bolts. I know its hard to see the wrench but that's because of his right hand being in the way.
