My immediate reaction when I saw this artwork was that it contains a lot of emotions. It feels very warm, tender and inviting, almost to the point where it sends out a motherly feeling. It might have to do with the fact that this deer is just a baby, and is looking very cute, but what is most important is the atmosphere that you have created. That's what's drawing me towards this painting.
This atmosphere is created by your technique, choice of colours and light source. You have a very good watercolour technique, where you can still feel that this is watercolour even though you have used more than one layer. Though to get a more realistic look, I would suggest to blend more, especially in the face and ears of the deer where the skin shows/the fur is so short that there are no hard lines. I like the variety in your colours; you have used a wide spectrum of them, which gives this a very realistic feeling, even though we are still reminded at the same time that this is watercolour. And you captured the light extraordinarily well!
I only gave it 3.5 stars for originality, and that's because it is simply a portrait. But that doesn't mean that it's not good! I put five stars on impact because that's my overall experience of this painting; five stars. Once again, it has a lot of emotions and a beautiful atmosphere, and I think that's the strongest part of this painting.
