Super Sonic, Who I am now by goldhedgehog on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Another double purpose deviation ^^; lol

Hey again everyone!

This is something different I suppose! This was an assignment for my uni which was called - MY JOURNEY. The assignment was basically; As a designer, create something that represents you in the best possible way! and how you've become the person you are now, etc. I've also wanted to submit something to the #ssclub because I haven't in a veeeeeeeeeeeeery long time and they're holding another free for all contest so I thought I'd enter that too! :D

A lot of us in the class had a great idea of creating a giant quilt and it ended up becoming a class project. EVERYTHING in this project had to represent us in every way possible.

So about 12 of us and the tutor had to design a 350 x 350 mm quilt and depending on which spot we got to do, we had to close up the side/corner (the giant quilt was going to be 3 quilts wide and 5 quilts long).

Anyways about MY JOURNEY...

:bulletblue: I chose Super Sonic as a representation of my journey to where I am right now. Sonic is my most favourite and iconic video game mascot ever because his games gave me a thrill from its speed freak satisfaction.

:bulletblue: Sonic has been the heaviest influence in my art and designs, he is the reason as to where I am right now in my life; an aspiring designer and illustrator! We were supposed to actually sew on other fabrics to create a collage of some sort but I decided to go with fabric paints because the painting represents how I became an artist. My mother was once a painter and I remember asking her when I was a kid; who painted the paintings on our walls and she said that it was her so that was when I wanted to try art for the very first time.

:bulletblue: I chose to illustrate Super Sonic because he is enveloped in GOLD, my favourite colour. I simply love the colour (Not the metal lol) BECAUSE it represents desire. Wealth, status, importance, rarity, class, all those qualities I desire is represented through the gold I've painted on the fabric.

:bulletblue: The 'READY FOR ACTION' pose Super Sonic is illustrated in represents my climbing up in life, always fighting for the top etc lol but yea, I am always ready and determined to go for something that I want!

:bulletblue: The little flares burning around Super Sonic represents my burning passion for Sonic lol. As corny as that may sound, it's the truth! Sonic is forever my influence! Also if you count carefully, there's about 12 of them, which represents how many years it has been since I've started drawing~ :P

:bulletblue: Last but not least, the fabric itself that I chose represents my anxiety of expanding my horizon, you notice the patterns on the fabric is quite 'busy' I quite like it but being busy with my works isn't really my style. I'm a perfectionist with my art. Art is something that grows on you, you can't become spectacular with it overnight or whatever (YOU CAN TRY LOL).

I actually enjoyed doing this because this was definitely outside of my comfort zone and usual media! Also, after checking out SONIC CONVERSE.Palmtree Panic by *syaming-li and *Bobsmade's gallery. It's kind of making me wanting to do more fabric art :D It's tons of fun and I recommend it for people who want to try something new!

Media used - 350 x 350 mm quilt fabric, fabric paints (Buttercup Yellow, Shimmer Gold, Titanium White, Vermillion Red), Fabric pen (Black)
