Yuna {Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale} Vector by greenmapple17 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

I had a thought about Ordinal Scale recently: what if Eiji didn’t exist and it was Yuna attacking people in the game?

Think about it, what does Shigemura really want, anyway? To get his daughter back. That’s not a villain motivation, he doesn’t need to BE the villain. He builds a special game console that scans people’s memories, sends them out into the world, and then uses the image of his daughter in the form of an AI Boss character to inspire the memories he needs, thinking that the more memories he has, the more like his daughter this AI will be. This version doesn’t erase memories, there’s no point, he just wants his baby back.

“Say, mister Shigemura, why does that unbeatable boss character look like your dead daughter?”
”It’s an Easter egg, what?”

On the other hand, picture that AI girl running through the game, fighting people she knows should be her friends and absorbing hundreds of different, possibly contradictory memories about who she’s supposed to be. I see her becoming deranged and possibly homicidal very quickly. She’d basically be an evil Yui. If she had the same hacking abilities, she could mess with the Augma headsets and make people see whatever she wanted. Maybe mess with their POV to terrorize them or trick them into committing suicide, jumping off buildings and stepping into traffic. “If hurting my friends makes my father happy, he’s really gonna love this!”
