Alternate History - Australian Light Horse Dress No. 3 - Duty Dress (1935-1940)

Presented here is the Army Dress No. 3 - Duty Dress as used between 1935 to 1940. Duty dress consists of the intemperate, and temperate combat order, as well as fatigue order. Examples are shown at the ranks of private (OR-1), sergeant (OR-6), warrant officer class 1 (OR-9), captain (OF-2), colonel (OF-5), and general (OF-9).

The light horse regiments had been a defining feature in Australian military history, drawing from the naturally talented drover stock of the bush to field great manoeuvrability and hardiness on the battlefield. Light horse regiments of the Commonwealth of Australia served in the Second Boer War (1899-1902) and the Great War (1914-1919) to great effect especially under the legendary General Sir Harry Chauvel. Throughout the Australian Civil War (1922-1928) light horse formations were essential in the sporadic skirmishes that took throughout the grasslands and bushlands in eastern and southern Australia. Following the civil war, light horse regiments were immortalised in Australian culture and continued to field mounted units into the World War (1939-1946) before being formed into armoured car units in 1940. They retained their mounted history and continue to serve proudly for the United Australian State. Unlike the Australian infantry, the light horse retained a much more traditional look, almost identical to the Great War counterpart however while in combat they were equipped with the m1935 Stahlhelm and m1943 Aushelm giving them a more Germanic look. The uniforms shown here aren't specific to a unit and are just the generic light horse regiment dress.
