Olikristinns Rare Iceland Goat by HouseofChabrier on DeviantArt (original) (raw)
11" X 14" Drawing on toned paper of Olikristinn's Rare Icelandic Goat. There are only about 1500 left in the world, and they are a very old and ancient breed of goat. They are also beautiful, and worthy of being treasured. There are many ancient breeds of goat, sheep, cattle, and pigs that are going extinct because no one is supporting the continuation of breeding and farming these ancient breeds. That is where the internet, and small farms in the US and all over the world step in. The work ethic, farming, canning, animal tending, shearing, spinning, dyeing, weaving, gathering eggs, are alive and well in this world. The internet and blogging bring these people and their simple, yet very complex and busy lives into our world. May all the ancient breeds of animals live long and prosper.
Photo I worked from was taken by Olikritinns' Photostream on Flicker, and the picture was taken by him in Iceland.
