Overwatch OC - Karma by HuggableRogue on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

( It was only a matter of time. I've tried a couple times making an Overwatch OC before, but none of them ever really clicked for me. But after having played the game more and becoming more familiar with the lore I finally was able to come up with a character that I'm pretty happy with. I wanted to create a sort of more offensive type of support character, one that doesn't need to just heal and watch from the sidelines. And here she is!

Not sure how many of you guys are Overwatch fans, but I do have a few other ideas for Overwatch characters so that's what you might see in your inbox from me for a bit X3 Let me know what you guys think or any suggestions you might have. Like if you think any of her abilties are a little OP, ideas for other abilties or anything else. )

Basic Info

Alias: Karma
Name: Brooke Richards
Age: 24
Affiliation: Currently Talon (Previously Overwatch)
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 128
Base of Operations: New York

Combat Info

Max Health: 200

Abilties:

Draining Touch - A short range electrical beam that locks onto a single enemy, gradually draining their health and giving it to nearby teammates.
Max Ammo: 100

Life Siphon - Ultimate - Emit a widespread shockwave that gradually drains the health of enemies caught in the blast and gives it to nearby teammates. (About the same radius and duration as Mei's ult. Karma would also be immobile throughout her ult, making her somewhat vulnerable.)

Magnetic Shield - Intiate a small magnetic barrier that gathers all incoming ammo that can then be directed elsewhere. (The shield however would only gather about 40 rounds of ammo before overloading, upon which the shield would break and just send the bullets in random directions. Things such as Soldier's Helix Rocket, Pharah's projectiles or any other types of explosives would cause the shield to break immediately.)
Cooldown: 10 seconds

Jamming Shock - Create a small ball of energy that will disable an opponent's basic firing ability for a couple of seconds on imapct.
Duration - 4 seconds
Cooldown after missing target - 6 seconds
Cooldown on impact with enemy - 12 seconds

Target the Healer - Passive - On death, release a wave of energy that will bestow a temporary damage boost to any nearby teammates.
(The ultimate definition of karma >8) )

Backstory
(Note: I'm not terribly familiar with the complete timeline of the Overwatch world so if anything here is inconsistent, welp, sorry XD)

After the results of the Omic Crisis, Brooke grew up in an orphanage. And by the time she was 13, Brooke's biggest dream was to join the heroes that had saved the world and ended the war, wanting to join them in order to help people too. As such, whenever disaster struck and the Overwatch agents were sent to take care of things it was more than likely that Brooke would show up there too. So the agents had grown rather accustomed to seeing her. Mainly from constantly having to get her out of trouble and then send her right back home. It had become almost a regular routine. But on one of these ventures, everything changed. Having heard that a bank heist was occuring, Brooke was immediately on the scene as normal. She went to work and flittered back and forth asking each of the agents how she could help. Like always, the agents merely urged the girl to get to safety or to just go home. That's when the shots rang out. The robbers suddenly sent a shower of bullets towards all of the Overwatch agents in the area, catching Brooke in the crossfire and causing a stray bullet to lodge deep into her chest. When she woke up, she found herself in the hospital and an odd little device on her chest. The agents that had come to check on her condition explained that although the bullet had managed to miss her heart, it still did massive damage. The device she was wearing was induced with a type of biotic energy and was gradually repairing the damage done to her. She would need to wear it for quite a few weeks until she was fully healed and then it could be removed. But as she spent the next few weeks in bed, the biotic energy continuously coursing through her veins, she eventually came to find that she could control the flow of the healing energy and actually use it to heal others. When it came time to remove the medical device, she emphatically declined. Discovering this newfound power she had, she saw this as her opportunity to be able to help others and maybe finally be able to join Overwatch. At first this was met with complete disapproval, mainly because of how young she was. But the girl was persistant. Eventually, they agreed to use her on a trial basis but only on one condition. She would only be premitted to work within the safety of the Overwatch facility, no actual field missions yet. She eagerly agreed. And for the next couple of years she worked as a trainee assistant in the medical wing in the local Overwatch facility. At age 18, her medical expertise had grown and the day she had been waiting for had finally arrived. She was being transferred in order to finish out her training and finally become a full fledge field assistant and, at the same time, an official agent of Overwatch like she had always dreamed about.

And so she was sent to the Overwatch Swiss Headquarters.

She doesn't even recall much from the week she was there. Everything was just a blur now. She woke up to find herself strapped to a cold metal operating table, cables and cords threaded from her chest and arms. Almost six years later from when she had stepped into the headquarters. And now she laid frightened and confused in a Talon laboratory. When it became aware their newest project was awake, her situation was immediately explained to her. Not long after the explosion that destroyed the headquarters, she had been removed from the wreckage and immediately brought here. The explosion had done considerable damage to her and it took an extensive amount of care just to keep her alive. But they were successful. They had saved her life. And one could argue that she now in fact owed them her life. As such they had taken the liberty to "enhance" her device to better suit their plans. At first she expressed greatly how she would never work for an organization such as them and how her friends would come for her any second. She was then quickly introduced to the new world she had woken up to. Overwatch was destroyed. In fact the world had completely turned their backs on their oh so beloved heroes. The people they had tried so hard to save and protect now viewed them as nothing more then common criminals. Overwatch was a mere memory now. It had been six years. No one was looking for her and no one was coming for her. She wanted so hard to believe that everything they said was a lie, that someone was still looking for her somewhere and they would come for her. But they never did. As such, it was easier for them to continue to plant the idea that the world hated them and her so called friends of Overwatch had abandoned her. And if the world didn't want her help, even despised her and those of Overwatch for trying, then why bother trying to protect the ungrateful wretches? The world hated her. But, if she accepted, they could instead teach her how to make the world fear her. Embittered by how the world had so quickly forgotten them and the results of Talon's various modifications on her now twisting her judgement, she took Talon's offer and joined them. She occasionally continues to reminisce about the times she had in Overwatch and the world that she used to know. But she knows those days are long gone. The world has changed and so has she. And it seemed time for the world to finally be dealt a little karma.
