As part of my workflow, I now use hires fix (as if people hadn't already noticed...). The way I use it, I run it four times using the X/Y/Z script, using denoising strengths of 0.5 and 0.6, alongside upscalers of Latent and a pixel-based upscaler. Latent will solidly do the best quality but at the cost of some coherence (and blurring, at low denoising strengths), while pixel based upscalers lose a lot of quality but are more stable. The advantage of doing things that way is that I then have 4 different but similar images, which I can then mix and match details of, combining them together in an image editor to make a better image, as I did as part of this >
