The Thorny Crown of Sol Invictus by IDrewYouThisDinosaur on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Sol Invictus, "The Unconquered Sun," was the Roman Sun God. Constantine the Great believed that the Greek Apollo, Helios, the Roman Sol Invictus, and Jesus Christ were all the same God.

The cross and the thorn of crowns were images of sun rays. The birth after the solstice and resurrection in spring were references to the sun's movement across the sky throughout the year.
