Mystic Tree Friends - Id, Ego and Superego by IskaMahika on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

And the third one is finished. This one is at least a bit faster than the second one. Although my online class just started, I want to at least finish this.

Originally, the title for this artwork is supposed to be "The Magic Mime, The Blind Agent and the Tech Genius" after the Mystic Tree Friends title. Unfortunately, submission has typing limitations for titles. So I decided to to name it after the Freudian idea for human psyche. The Id being the emotional one, The Superego being the logic one, and the Ego being the balance of the two. Don't know if it will really fit them but this is all I can think of.

The trio I drew her is the same as how I first sketch them like the Land, Sea and Sky artwork. The trio here being Mime, The Mole, and Sniffles. Though I am a bit unsatisfied with one part, that being The Mole's cane. I couldn't find a better color for it. Maybe I'll change it. On with the explanation.

Mime's element is more on pure magic. Just as his name says, he does a lot of pantomiming in the series. But this is where it gets very peculiar. He always make imaginary objects when he does certain gestures, and yet this is where things feel really impossible. Everytime he pantomimes, it makes audible sounds, as if there really is an object, just invisible. In the series, all of his furniture in his tent are imaginary, yet they make sounds as if they are there but invisible. Not only that, there is one episode, a love bite starring him and Petunia, where he makes a heart shape and blow it to Petunia to make a flying kiss. But the moment it came to her face, it shattered like glass, followed by an arrow shot by Mime with an imaginary bow. When he realized what he done, he runs away, by miming a door out of thin air, entering it and suddenly, he gone! He just disappeared. Poof! This makes you wonder, was it all real? Was everything Mime doing real? Are the objects he's making that we thought to be imaginary, turn out to be real objects that we just couldn't see? Well, we'll never know, since he doesn't speak. But even if he does, I don't think he will tell us. Afterall, a magician never reveals his secrets. Aside from miming, he has quite the talent for circus acts, from juggling objects to making balloon animals. He would even do dangerous ones, like juggling chainsaws with his feet while spinning a plate on his nose and holding a torch on one hand at the same time, while balancing himself with the other hand on the ground. Seriously, he is quite the performer, being able to entertain other Tree Friends with his performances and magic tricks. That's why his element is more on pure magic itself, making him a magician, which would actually fit him because a mime is a kind of a clown, and clowns can be magicians. There are no characters that I use to inspire him. Mr Mime from Pokemon may count though, but the true inspiration for this are from his other portrayals done in fanfiction and fancomics. One is from an HTF fanfiction titled

Mime Over Matter

, where his pantomiming turns out to be real and it actually magic. And he is quite badass here too because he is fighting Fliqpy. The second one is where I really get the idea for his Mystic AU design, an HTF fancomic titled

Sweet Lullaby

. In this comic, he is really a magician, and he has a huge role to play in it.

The Mole's element is earth. I thought of earth due to the kind of animal he is, but to make his element special, he can wield crystals. And thanks to his earth element, he won't just rely on his sharp hearing, as most blind people would do. He will be able to sense his surroundings via vibration on the ground, basically seismic sense. As mentioned earlier, I gave him the title "Blind Agent". Why? Because in the series, a special episode starring him, portrayed him as a secret agent. And despite being blind, he is able to do his task completely. It just shows how awesome he can be without his lack of eyesight hindering him. Though I still wonder if he survived in the end. I hope he did. And to portray more of his agent status, I redesigned his walking cane to be somewhat multi-functional. Though it was built with a grapling hook, I want to at least give more function to it. As for the rest of the series, he is shown to be an overall kindhearted character. Despite his unintentional harm he cause, he really is shown to be a nice person. As a result, I picture him as somewhat of a wise old person that you can talk to, and that even with his spy status, he is still be quite the sweet and kind person. He did give balloons to the Pig Child when he started to cry in his special episode to cheer him up. For the crystal he manipulates as part of his earth magic, each crystal has its own supernatural abilities, which means that The Mole himself will be able to cast any kind of magic via crystals. This would include other elements as well, depending on the kind of crystals he is using, as shown in the artwork where the crystals around Mole has different colors to indicate different elements. This idea is a bit inspired from the Dust Crystals from RWBY, since every Dust with different colors has different elements. The design of The Mole's cane is also inspired from RWBY, that being Ozpin's Cane, and when wielding the crystals, it would be akin to how Glynda Goodwitch does her Telekinesis, because I picture Mole using his cane like a wand when he is doing his earth magic.

Sniffles' elements are metal and electricity. That is, if he would be able to wield these elements. There is only one problem, his magic is very weak, to the point that he would get tired so easily. As a result, he can't cast spells or conjure up objects like anyone would do. But to make up for that, he is highly intelligent, having vast knowledge to almost everything. He studies a lot about magic and he is very skillful in buiding gadgets and devices, just as how he makes a lot of inventions and experiments in the series, hence the title "Tech Genius". Reason for this is due to his weak magic and he is finding a way to remedy it by studying magic itself. This may seem contradicting to his character though. In the series, he lives in what seems to be a laboratory, and his Smoochie is Science themed. This would picture him as a scientist of sorts, and scientists would dismiss magic overall, due to how illogical it is. To solve this issue, he would be the kind who would study magic like science, wanting to know how exactly magic works though empirical evidence and experimetation, as any scientist with a lot of curiosity would do. This would make him the scientist of magic. But magic in their world is not easily analyzed, for magic is wild and unpredictable. So it would be quite a big challenge for him to understand magic completely. But then again, not everyone understands magic completely, so that's okay. He doesn't have to take too much time trying to understand it just so he would understand why he has weak magic. Not everyone is born strong. But he is born smart and has the gift in building magitek, basically magically powered technology. This is to indicate his supposed elements metal and electricity, since he uses technology and creates a lot of inventions. Some of his inventions is his gauntlet on his left wrist, where he use it to scan, communicate, store information, and other purposes. Another invention he made is the body suit underneath his coat, which is connected to his gauntlet. It's purpose is yet to be shown, but it has something to do with remedying his weak magic. The idea of him having some power on technology is similar to Tecna from Winx Club, and him being a scientist for magic is a bit inspired from Alphys from Undertale, since she does the same thing as well.

By the way, Sweet Lullaby is a great fancomic, and it is currently ongoing. You can find it here in Deviantart, or here in Webtoons. Look it up if you want. And if you want to see more of the comic, you can support the creators on Patreon. As much as I want to help, I don't have the money to support them. But I do hope to see more of the comic, because I love it.

And if you want to see the fanfic Mime Over Matter, click here. It's an awesome fanfic.
