Description

History
Fed up with small tank engines doing the shunting around the bigger yards and increasing loads caused an issue with board so they looked abroad for an engine to shunt one thing was it had to be a tender engine and liked what the Pennsy was using so they order 50 engines not only for shunting , industrial and short haul goods or need be passengers trains. Classified as D1 the class was built at Baldwin and 20 from Lima with super heaters as the rest were saturated The 30 engines were later on all were upgraded and given larger tenders that were sloped backed to get clear picture while switching but no rear lamp which led to derailments at night. They worked dutifully till the 1950s when they were displaced by diesels like the C7s and all were scrapped but one has survived from scrap by working a power plant till it was closed down in 1970.
