Inquisitive Jay by JestePhotography on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Family: Corvidae

Species: Cyanocita cristata

Common Name: "Blue Jay"

Here's a Great Caption for This:

"Say, WHAT! I'm Not Actually Blue?!"

A little known fact; A Blue Jay's feathers actually contain NO blue pigment cells! It's how their Feathers refract sunlight, making them look blue! This could be a problem with figuring out the colors of prehistoric Feathered Dinosaurs, whereas, They might share this peculiarity! Because, Most Blue colored birds DO have Blue pigment cells!

This "Sciencey Fluff" is what your photo makes me think of. I mean; the angle and the way he's looking. He looks both surprised and fascinated by something just out of frame!

It's a Great Shot!💖
