My Wake Up Call by joliealicia on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

I like simple. It’s not something I get to savor often. Like this. Like you. Velveteen moments, where I lay here and watch you sleep, feel your chest rise and fall against my own, left leg wrapped around your right to bring you closer when you wriggle, squirm.

Hours pass, but I lay quiet. Lay still, to linger longer locked in your embrace. I like the way you whisper my name when fingertips work over the furrow in your brow. If I’m lucky, I can coax a smile.

These moments precious. Perfect. That thing I’m not sure you believe or see in yourself. Perfection. It’s easy for me, holding you, holding me. Simple. My velveteen moments, like sunshine rising over desert plateaus. You warm me. Melt frozen patches over my heart.

I like simple. It’s not something I get to savor often. Like this. Like you. Your sleep tussled features now held prisoner on my cell phone, much like you when you sleep in my arms.
