Pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes TEX Pastel paper 72cm X 52cm. Portrait of Kobi Farhi, lead singer of the Israeli oriental metal band Orphaned Land. If you're not familiar with their work and have a taste for that sort of thing go check it out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbCliC…

I've been listening to Orphaned Land while working in the studio for the last 8 years, and they rank and one of my favorite bands. When I heard they were coming to Brisbane I lashed out on a meet and greet ticket - A. because I have admired them for years and wanted to meet them, and of course hear them play (which was EPIC) but also - B. To show them some of my work on the phone, and ask if I could take photos with a view painting them. Obviously that worked out, and this is the result.

This is not a posed image, I just let them talk to they other people there and stood back and tried not to be tooooo much of a pest taking photos constantly.

Kobi (in the 45 mins I've spent with him) struck me as a very sincere person, who unconsciously spoke with his hand on his heart often, and was generous with his time despite clearly being exhausted mid tour.

Quote from him in the documentary "Global Metal"

"If we sing about the dark, we do nothing. There is plenty of darkness in this world. I think this is why we should speak about the light"

EDIT- WIP time lapse set to his music now on youtube, posted by the man himself on his facebook. Hooray :) youtu.be/eJ8KZys50Dk
