Purebred Pretties Walkthrough by KittyStorage on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Ahem... right. Friend of mine asked for a step-by-step regarding my Purebred Project, soooo... I tried. Really, but I suck at this. ^^' It looks like a collage at best I guess...

And please let me apologize for the writing, I have an awful hand, I'm quite aware. Please ask if there is anything you wanna know.

Firstly, regarding the sketch; I have them done ahead of drawing, so currently I still have five sketches lying at the ready for the next kitties. Anyway, when I sketch, of course I use references. Especially, I use thumbnail-sized refs. Why? Simple. You're given the gist of the cat's position, without feeling like you "copy" straight off the photo, making the drawing your own as you go, because you have to fill out all details on your own.

I always start the lineart from the face, working down the neck and the body at last - the paws and the muzzle remains my greatest enemies to this day. T_T

All good kitty drawers should remember to use colour refs though, best bloody idea there ever was - nothing looks as realistic, even when I do this semi-stylistic.

Either way, ask away should there be anything I wasn't clear enough regarding. ^^

P.S. The only program used was Paint Tool SAI!
