Barriss Offee is my Hero by Kjara-draws on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Alright, I decided to open the comments section, and BTW the download is very big and print friendly. I wasn't really planning to post this picture this soon, since I originally wanted to finish and post a couple of related comics, but given that today is "Star Wars Day" I guessed I should.
A few months ago, I received a note, this note was of a person that was asking me permission to use one of my pictures of Barriss, this one fav.me/d3hx3nx for an article on their website; they told me it was for a list called the top ten Star Wars villains of all time or something like that, and Barriss was part of that list, but I declined, for she is a hero to me.
And I explained to the person why, and said that yes, what she did on the season 5, yes they were acts of villain-y, however, what I thought was more like a fanatic's act, someone that wanted to make a point, which yes included acts of terrorism and even murder, but she wasn't a truly evil being that wanted to dominate the world or anything like that.
And the reason why I think she is a heroine is because she saved Ahsoka's life from whatever punishment she was about to receive, her reasons were right, and Ahsoka must had to realized she had to leave the Jedi Order, since she found how cruel the Council were to her, these men and women were no longer peacekeepers, but warmongers, and this broke her heart. Barriss' act was an act of self-sacrifice, she still had a sense of honor, and perhaps she foresaw that eventually she was going to be discovered and took the moment to at least save her friend.
Now something else is, not so long a friend told me about a podcast interview made to the show's director, Dave Filoni, asking about the fates of several characters, including Barriss. He said that she is still alive, and apparently no longer a victim of Order 66, but that's about what he said. Now what truly terrified me in the interview is that he said that on the season 5 finale, Barriss was originally going to blow herself up using the nanobombs that were inside her, but in the end they changed it. No matter, this revelation stunned me, and really made me realize that they never wanted to give her a chance of redemption. I don't know whether the story people of Lucasfilm really has plans for her, but if they do, it's most likely not gonna be an honorable conclusion for her.
Still, he did said also that he doesn't want to reveal her final fate, or several other characters that never got one, for he believes fans should be allowed to create their own stories for them, and give them their happy endings, and this is something I can agree, I still plan to make several comics that star Barriss, and Ahsoka, and basically create my own universe for her, because I love this character so much, and I feel that she should be remembered as the Padawan learner that was the best friend to Ahsoka, just like it was portrayed on the seaon 6 finale, which showed a moment with both Ahsoka and Barriss still as Jedi, still as friends, I believe that's how the makers wanted to finalize the series.
