How could you call it nasty?! It's ADORABLE! But no, really, I understand. I like snakes, but I can understand why some people wouldn't. The penchant for some to be poisonous is enough to freak some people out, and the defense mechanism of pooping on your captor is another.

On to the picture! I really like how the background is blurred just enough to bring the focus to the stick and the snake, yet the terrarium (I think?) painting on the back wall is still identifiable as being trees.

I also like how the image is a little off-center. In this case I think it helps to bring balance to the image, because the coils on the left-half of the image come up higher than those on the right-half. By putting the majority of the snake off-center, the peak of the body and the stick are closer to center.

Also, the shadowy hint of the tree in the back helps to give a more subtle balance without being "HEY! LOOK AT ME! I'M HERE STEALING ATTENTION FROM THE FOCUS!" while also allowing us to see more of the perch the reptile seem to find so comfortable.
