Georgian Ball Gown by LadyJamie on DeviantArt (original) (raw)
Ah the long awaited Georgian dress. I have been working on this for at least 5 months and somehow managed to get it done in time for Halloween!
I highly (and I mean highly!) modified the two simplicity patterns for the undergarments and dress. Undergarments can be seen here: [link]

The dress is all 100% silk, purple striped and dark crimson accents. There is some beading on the bows and a little bit on the underskirt. It does have Watteau Pleats but they are not visible in this photo.
Research I used for the design and work includes:
- Seventeenth and Eighteenth-Century Fashion in Detail by Avril Hart
- Shoes And Slippers (National Trust Fashion) by Althea MacKenzie
- Patterns of Fashion 1: 1660-1860 by Janet Arnold
- What People Wore When: A Complete Illustrated History of Costume from Ancient Times to the Nineteenth Century for Every Level of Society by Melissa Leventon
- Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the Eighteenth Century (Metropolitan Museum of Art) by Harold Koda
