Pencil portrait of Jasmine by LateStarter63 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Graphite pencil portrait of Jasmine Wark on A4 size smooth surface cartridge paper.

This drawing is based on a photograph that appeared in the Daily Telegraph newspaper in August 2010 www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/yo… about finalists in the HSBC Young Enterprise Innovation Awards Scheme. She was the 17 year-old PR director of Buzzwords which produced books for children on the concern of the decline in the bee population in Britain.

I made a drawing from this photograph in August 2010 and this early drawing (my 59th portrait since I started drawing freehand at Xmas 2009) can be seen in my scrapbook fav.me/d6cdesr.

I give my thanks to the photographer Christopher Jones www.christopher-jones.net/ for his kind permission to use, as my reference, his photograph in which he so well captured Jasmine’s natural, youthful excitement.

For this drawing I went back to smooth surface cartridge paper (I have used Bristol board for my previous eight drawings). I had forgotten the feel of this paper compared to the Bristol board – It felt as if I was drawing on fine glasspaper!
