I can’t even play Baldur’s Gate 3 and yet I’ve still somehow become obsessed with this elven vampire I still hope to get a platform to play the game on but I couldn’t help myself and spoiled myself for most of Astarion’s story arc, enough at least for me to really come to love his character.
Without spoiling much I just found it interesting how Astarion can eventually begin to heal through the trauma he’s been through with the help of the player. He so easily could have been a stereotypical broody vampire character who doesn’t grow or learn and yet the way he’s written is so subversive and well done.
I think another reason I’ve latched onto his character is because I’m currently working through healing my own traumas, and seeing Astarion manage it makes me feel stronger to be able to do it myself.
Here’s to adding another comfort character/person who I wish I could hug
