Noise - Poem

Play a bunch of noise to drown out the constant sound, Of a million and one voices all putting me down. I’ve spent a quarter of a century trying to figure me out, But each time I have an answer, I start to drown. All I really want is to make someone proud, But when I get to that peak, I always fall back down. Somebody stop me, this is torture, I’m waterboarding myself, In all that noise inside my head, constantly swirling around. I long for silence, it’s ironic, since I can’t make a sound. The simplest human gestures never fail to confound. My life is a contradiction that almost seems profound, Though if anyone cared to look closer, they’d see a mind that's unsound.
