Description

Psychopomp god and the ferryman of Hades who transports newly deceased souls across the river Styx into the Underworld, Charon is the son of Nyx (Night) and Erebus (Darkness). Coins were placed in the mouths of the dead in order to pay Charon's fee as souls who could not pay would be trapped between the world of the living and the dead.
