Mileena - The Sensei by luigiix on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

"When I first envisioned this story and the culture from whom these super special awesome magic kung fu bullshit powers come from, there was a sense of "duality". I call it duality, but in truth, it's really just oppositions.
In their culture; all people had long hair (like how all male dwarves have beards, and I refuse the idea that female dwarves have them). Men had the twin dragon tail (two tails that are gathered behind each ear), while women had the flying phoenix (an extra tail that from the top of the head). This also goes for their clothes as well. Men often go topless, and the rare times they wear some form of a top, it's a simple, over the shoulder piece as worn by adult Zero in a couple of his earlier pieces. Men never wear sleeved attire.

Women often just wear a simple black band to cover the breasts

(or whatever other color or style suits them). But for those who are dressing for an occasion, or perhaps have a place of authority (such as the leader of a sect or school), wear a flowing robe that usually has a very long tail that tends to drag for a few feet on the ground behind them (magic Aura bullshit allows them to always keep from tripping on it and to even turn that tail into a weapon). It holds to the same over the shoulder design, but it comes with a sleeve (usually a left sleeve, but also a right sleeve for those who are left handed) that is long and flowing like the sleeve of a kimono. Fitted around the upper arm before blooming out from the elbow. This leaves the upper right side of their body exposed, save for breast bands and any accessories.

When I finally finished the skeleton of Storm Path and began to write the story in earnest

, I saw Mileena as in desperate need of an update to her attire. The old uniform, which was little more than a rip off of Vergil's attire from DMC3, felt a little... dated. Ironically so, as she's wearing modern clothes in that picture and has reverted to wearing something more appropriate to an Eastern fantasy setting. Mileena's attire isn't quite as flowing or showy as what I described above, but it is something that women might have worn if they were of lesser houses, schools, or sects. And though I want to explain why she has, in canon, traded in her modern attire for something more traditional, I'm going to keep that to myself for the time being. (; "
