Pearlescent x Rika

The night sky overhead was as deep a blue as the sea, speckled with a sprinkling of stars that looked like twinkling salt. There was a jumping spark of light, a long fuse of brightness that jumped into the soft edge of the firewood. The edges turned red and crinkled, releasing a light smoke. Rika softly leaned forwards and breathed life into the flame. “Be careful,” Pealescent warned, eying how close her paws were. “Fire can scorch our skin in a moment.” The smaller aquatic, Rika, responded by pushing the ember into the fireplace with a half-joking huff. “I can take care of myself sometimes, you know?” She crossed her arms and gave a smile. Ever since the two childhood friends once lost to each other had reunited on the beachside the gentle giant Pearlescent had become even more protective than usual. “I’ll be fine Pearly,” she waived off, “I’ve lived on land for a long time now, you know?” Even though it told of freedom, that statement was still a touch sad for an aquatic–but
