Ribbonlegs Spectrum by M0AI on DeviantArt (original) (raw)
While the warm greenish-yellow hue of my previous ribbonlegs painting is perhaps the most typical ribbonlegs coloration, there is much more variety to this species. Shown here are some examples.
From left to right:
-A very typical yellowish ribbonlegs. The richness of the hue indicates liveliness and health. Conversely, if a ribbonlegs' color is too bright, it indicates certain illnesses or drug overdose.
-A vivid green ribbonlegs. Also an extremely common coloration, green has a connotation as a male's color. There is actually no significant correlation between color and gender, however.
-A bright blue ribbonlegs. An uncommon coloration, it is considered by many to be the most beautiful coloration of a ribbonlegs. Studies have shown that blue ribbonlegs tend to receive better treatment than their peers, receiving more career opportunities and generally enjoying a higher social status.
-A purple ribbonlegs. Another uncommon coloration, purples have a reputation of being quick to anger and aggressive. While there is no biological connection between color and temper, because of the phenomenon of self-fulfilling prophecies, this stereotype is often true.
-A magenta ribbonlegs. The rarest coloration, magentas begin their lives with a rich yellow coloration, which deepens and reddens as they age. Ribbonlegs often change color slightly as they age, but no color change is as extreme as that of the magenta ribbonlegs. Because of this strangeness, and because of the rarity of magenta ribbonlegs (fewer than one percent), magentas have a reputation of being distinguished and charismatic. In the past, magentas were often revered, and even today many powerful families have a higher-than-average incidence of magenta coloration.

After I'd finished painting the ribbonlegs, I colorized them, using different layers and effects in photoshop. I came up with many colorations that I liked, so rather than choose just one favorite I decided to keep them all. So, here they are. I think I like the green and the blue the best.
