Kaihou! Clash King!! by MarxArtCo on DeviantArt (original) (raw)
Battle Spirits Shounen Gekiha Dan became my all-time favorite kids TV show after watching it last year. The thing that hooked me to the series was the theme song: "Battle No Limit!" by JAM Project. The funny thing about that is I heard the opening when it first came out and I fell in love once I saw who the characters of the show are from the album art and the anime opening: it felt like I can really click with them. Watching it 5 years after its initial release, I did click with the characters and I also LOVED the story, the soundtrack and its take on introducing the game (the entire second ending is dedicated to teaching people how to play Battle Spirits). Dan Bashin has then officially became my favorite protagonist of all time. His "sweltering" but infectious personality kept me pretty engaged throughout the story, and so did his simple yet effective Aggro strategy with the cards he uses: it reminds me so much of how I play Duel Masters. He also has earned a title for himself that fits him very well: the Clash King. In Japanese, that's translated as 激突 王(Gekitotsu-ō), and it rolls off the tongue very well... or at least that's my opinion.
"Shounen Gekiha Dan's" story was also fantastic, because it got dark towards the middle and everyone managed to get through the problem and develop their characteristics throughout the entire story. Even the character I hate the most got developed too (Yuuki Momose)! I don't really play the Battle Spirits TCG at all (since I don't have any cards), but when they got to "Battle Spirits Brave," they introduced a new mechanic. After looking at Dan's Wiki page, I noticed that he uses a sh--load of colors in "Brave" aside from his beloved Red. That and the whole re-imagining of the characters dissuades me to watch it. I'm watching "Battle Spirits Burning Soul," though: despite my hate for the fact that they're just reusing ANOTHER Sengoku theme in the world of anime.
I feel sad how there isn't really much art of Shounen Gekiha Dan on deviantART as a whole. But hey, at least I added THIS to the fray! This picture features Dan Bashin in his first battle form and his initial key spirit "The ThunderEmperorDragon Siegwurm." When I frst drew Siegwurm, my brother mistook it for a dog/dinosaur hybrid. As a result, Siegwurm has been renamed "Dogasaur" by him.
I drew this using pencil, a Fine point and an Ultra Fine Point Sharpie, and colored pencils. I used this picture as a cover for my planner, so that people can tell from a distance that it's mine in case I ever lost it. Now that it's Spring, I took off this cover and made a new one.
I may not officially play the Battle Spirits Trading Card Game on an everyday basis, but if you still want to face me in that game - or any other card game, in that matter - feel free to face me in TradeCardsOnline! My username is "marxster." www.tradecardsonline.com/user/…
