Day 22 - Chocolate Mint

At long last, the classic is here! I've been waiting to do Chocolate Mint because it's one of my favourite themes and I wanted to do it justice. I'm not so sure I did, but I still had fun with it.

Remember back in Mermay when I said I wasn't sure if the inks kept going under the masking film because of the film itself or the paper?
It was because of the ink. They just...don't behave. (Don't get me wrong: they're great for calligraphy and the washes you can get are GORGEOUS and have always done what I want them to do otherwise! They just seep under masking fluid/masking film/masking tape/etc.) I'm not going to throw them out or anything, but I'll probably use them as tests and playing around instead of actually working with them. I forgot how frustrating this was. Thankfully the skin tone (where most of it bled under) is quite dark so it's not too obvious.
To make matters worse, I realized it had seeped under and in a state of grumpiness I took off the masking film and washi tape while the paper was still damp, which caused the entire border to rip up. I was able to fix it, but it made me cranky. (Pro tip! If your tape peels up the paper, go over the area hard with a white coloured pencil [or one that matches your paper tone] and it will smooth it right out! Not recommended if you plan on adding pigment over it.)

So in the end I'm happy with it. The supplies just made me grumpy during the process.

Done with Copic markers, Marabu aqua ink (you've betrayed me for the last time) and bristol board (which, admittedly, is not made for water washes).
