Just Rag Dollies by MeadowSage on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

I’m just a rag dolly, happy and smilin’ all day,
A little rag dolly, wishing your worries away. I stop and say, “Golly, this is too good to be true, A little rag dolly, plain as can be, has a friend who’s as lovely as you.”

A little something that was in my traditional WIP folder since last year that I decided to color this week as a break from gift and request art.

One of my favorite animated movies, which I discovered just last year, is "Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure." Directed by Richard Williams, a pioneer of the animation industry, this was a project he worked on while trying to make "The Thief and the Cobbler" a reality. This whimsical film was the culmination of work from as many as 60 animators and co-animators combined, including Art Babbit (the Disney animator who created Goofy) and Grim Natwick (an animator for Fleischer studios and the creator of the original concept of Betty Boop). Also, with catchy musical numbers composed by Joe Raposo, the original music director for "Sesame Street." I absolutely love all of the care that went into creating this film. From the seamless transitions from live action to animation to the almost life-like physics of the main characters, not to mention some of the bizarre and beautiful visuals, all of these things easily make this one of my favorites.

When I first discovered this film, I quickly wanted to draw my own interpretation of Raggedy Ann and Andy. I wanted to go with something cute, matching closely with the style of the film, but also adding my own spin on things. As I said, the original line art for this was in my WIP folder for quite a while, but I still like how it turned out and wanted to finish it properly.

Done with Staedtler fine liners and Prismacolor colored pencils.
