The woman on the image is Rowena from the story/comic Lady Unlucky. It is my part of the art trade with .
I didn't really have any inspiration for the background, so I asked for a random scenery/landscape. The answer was "lucht" (air/sky). I thought about it for a bit and then I came across 's contest about using a song as inspiration.

Inspiration song:

Suzaku is a phoenix (it will sound familiar if you have read Fushigi Yuugi XD) and the red sky plays a role in the song (it's titled that too - the title means "Suzaku's sky").

In this image Rowena is thinking about things past. A lot of things have happened in this life, but what was her life before that? Why was she turned into a human? What is her reason for existing in this form?
The song is about being abandoned by the person she loved and still loves. I thought that it does fit with the story, because the girl singing the song was abandoned and Rowena has also been abandoned - by her own memories.

I used a different scanner this time - I will scan it again on my usual scanner to see which colours are better.
