They're souls who stalks people using the manipulation of electrical appliances. They fry the circuits of an equipment when they emerge out from it.

They hypnotize people through social media, causing them to run out of control as they get addicted to their social platforms such as phones, television, and other advanced technology.

According to some scientists, Hauntrot learns to adapt quickly on new technology. They act as bugs on apps or hack the system of an entire appliance, creating an apparition before disappearing in the smoke of destruction. Some speculate that this must be the origin of Missingno, corrupting the saved file of a Gameboy before spreading in the code of the game.
