This was originally going to be an entry for a movie poster contest at #avatar-fan but I didn't make the deadline. After I saw the movie and was SOOO disappointed (my humorous review here: menollysagittaria.deviantart.c… ) I thought I would just scrap this. But . . . I really liked doing the Southern Air Temple, (it's so pretty ) and I had already put so much work into it . . . so I decided to finish it.

Design: I used the "banners" of the four nations that the movie used, although I like the original four symbols better. I also rearranged the order into the Avatar Cycle (water, earth, fire, air) and the last has been "ripped" from the post, representing the genocide of the airbenders. I wanted to convey the impact of the title, The Last Airbender. I wanted the picture to be about his losing his people, and the empty (albeit still dramatic) place the Temple has become . . .

Medium: Aquarelles. Note to self: don't try to supplement regular colored pencils for missing colors unless you are willing to smooth out the rough watercolor paper forcefully. -_-' Exhibit A: Appa's brown tail pattern.

Do you like the waterstained/faded/aged effect of the title? I liked it in real life but the scanning just makes it look sloppy. X(

(btw, some pieces are decidedly easier to watermark than others without being intrusive or distracting lol. Water-marking water-colors lolx2)
