Victorian girls in supermarket by Michelle-Bound on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Amelia, Emily and Rachel are three Victorian sisters from 1851 who have discovered a hidden small door in the wooden panelling of their bedroom.

Once they have got undressed and got ready for bed, their Mother watches the three of them making their prayers at the foot of Amelia's bed for a little while before leaving.

"Let's look inside the door now." Emily whispers.

Before Amelia can advise this isn't a good idea, Rachel and Emily have rushed across and opened the door.

Behind the hidden door, they find a small room behind and there lies three sets of clothing.

"Oh these are nice. Let's try them on." the middle sister Rachel suggests.

They take off their nightgowns and put on the new garments.

"You're right, these are really nice." the smallest girl Emily laughs.

Amelia shrugs and copies her boistrous younger sisters. And as soon as she does there is suddenly a haze of swirling lights after which they find themselves in a very strange place.

"What is this place ?" Emily asks.

"I don't know. But have you ever seen so much food ?" Rachel gasps.

"And so many gas-lights. They're as bright as the sun." Amelia adds.

"And the floor is so clean. They must have lots of maids."

(Yeah this proves it's fiction. When did you last see a clean supermarket floor ? :-) )

They walk around for a little while, strangely dressed people trying to look like they aren't staring at them as people often do.

"What's that buzzing in my ear ?" Rachel remarks.

"Yes I'm hearing it too. In fact it seems to be coming from the dress." Amelia comments.

"How can a dress buzz ?" Emily asks.

Then with a sudden swirl of lights they return to their house. Totally baffled they make their way to their beds still wearing the new gowns, and fall asleep exhausted.
