Aggretsuko Season 2 by Milk-Addicc on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

.. does it look official yet? i tried to copy the artstyle and all hhhhh----

so i watched the season 2 and.. oh boy.
sorry to mention but i'm a little disappointed. it kinda didn't led up to my expectations before nor during i watched it.

RANT TIME (aka, me rambling, you can just ignore this because i'm spoiling the entire thing, have a good day-)

this whole season, feels like a huge clickbait to me. don't get me wrong, its not horrible, its just.. disappointing and sorta unsatisfactory. unlike the first season where i actually felt refreshed and eager to wait for the next season when i finished watching, this season sorta left me feeling empty. dunno if thats the intention or not but yea, i feel nothing, not even the same eagerness i felt when i watched the first season. things happen but most of those things don't have endings nor resolution to it.
okay so the character i was waiting for, Anai-kun, is an irritating piece of bread in it. i didn't expect it and i am not pleased with it. yea i get it, they need to somehow alter the characters a bit so that they fit in the series but still. he was so lovable and funny in the shorts. here he's just some egotistical, self-entitled freshman who thinks he can just slack off after blackmailing people. the worst part is after he got babied by Kabae-san (bless her), he's still act salty towards people around and even though willing to work eventually, he never apologized for his behavior. we never see him reflect on himself or see a side where there's a reason why he's so "scared" we only see other characters speculate on how he feels but not himself. like suddenly after everything "worked out" he finally find a place for himself and friends with everyone yaaay, despite the fact he literally blackmailed every single employees and as i said, never apologized and no punishment whatsoever. it just left me with "what you're suddenly friends now?" feeling. maybe its accurate to real life or something but eegh.
other characters we got to know in the first season doesn't get big roles like they used to. Fenneko barely does anything this season (that affects retsuko in some way), and haida only acts sometimes but not enough, they barely feel like they're there nor leave any significant impact.
this season, they mostly focus on the Anai-kun problem, Retsuko's mom choosing suitors for Retsuko (which suddenly gone by the end of the season with no reason whatsoever), Retsuko's goals (that changes a lot), and characters spewing "wise words" to the viewers every 5 minutes. its getting stale and boring quick, at least to me.
the last episodes are.. similar to the last season in terms of pattern, the guy Retsuko dates (in this season, suddenly, out of nowhere) doesn't match her dream/goal anymore and they stopped dating with no further discussions whatsoever. (yea, they talked about it after the metal-breakdown but it doesn't change anything. if anything it just puts the nail in the coffin instead of.. i dunno change some perspective like how discussions tend to work)

so yea, barely any character development (other than Director Ton i guess, he's less aggressive in here, perhaps Washimi and Gori too but i'm not sure it counts..?), barely any karaoke freak outs (maybe thats a progress for Retsuko, probably, i dunno-), there's this small subplot where the cat girl finally moved out but that resolved in like 2 episodes with a "i can't pay the rent, not capable enough, guess i need to go back and start over lol" (that last bit, basically this entire season in a nutshell).

now for other minor things i noticed that were left hanging was, that drummer guy. when he said that he's gonna play drum or somethin i got excited. because i thought they're finally showing us something about Haida being part of a band and stuff and boi i was ready. but it never came, nothing led up to that point, they could've just made him said he wanted to take a day off and it wouldn't change a thing by giving me fake hopes- but i guess thats for next season or something.
also, i expected more drama in this season, maybe something with Haida or Tadano or that whole Washimi vs Gori thing, because the Washimi vs Gori thing also didn't got a proper resolution. they just out of nowhere teamed up with Haida for Retsuko at the last episode. Washimi got married to someone and divorced 4 months later was also brought up but never resolved nor shown, and that whole eni-o AI function thing, would they use AI to do their jobs now? was there any risk? there's so many threads with loose ends.

now for positives, i liked polar bear man (he looks huggable hh), and mostly i really liked Tadano. tbh he's way better than Resasuke from the 1st season in terms of character and personality. he's like everyone's dream man at some point, a chill, take-it-slow nice guy who's apparently a wealthy, genius developer, and (depending on what type of person you are) doesn't want kids nor believe in marriage whatsoever, but he's a celebrity of sort, an important guy so i guess its reasonable because its realistic, usually these type of people only see those as a status and wants life to be simple yet interesting to live in. he truly liked Retsuko for who she is, but what he thinks is best for them doesn't match Retsuko's POV of an ideal life (because she wants a family), so yea. i was both in awe for the guy's charisma and personality when he's dating Retsuko yet at the same time was sad for my son Haida.. its a complicated feeling.
also despite whatever happened to Haida because of his feelings for Retsuko (and i know people kinda want him to move on and stuff), i actually still want him to succeed. Retsuko kinda gave him a hint (a small one) that there still might be a chance (in the christmas special).
i guess one more chance on him trying to achieve his goal should do it, in this season he hasn't exactly make any drastic move for it to happen. no old characters we loved in the first season did anything drastic (well other than Washimi and Gori, they sorta have more personality in this season, Washimi's tail wag is just adorable)

but yea, unlike the first season, this season is not recommended for a one-and-only watch, at least to me. because there's stuff that's left unexplained that it demands a season 3. unlike the first season where you can just watch only that season and go. season 2 only serves as a bridge between i guess.

phew, alright i feel better now hh.
its alright if you like this season, its just my opinion, or me being very dramatic. or both.
