Description

Another one of those maps I felt like making for its own sake. It's interesting that a tiny island like Sri Lanka could have an ongoing civil war for 26 years, and that said separatists (Tamil Eelam) were not entirely far from achieving victory. I wish I knew more about the conflict, maybe if I had Sinhalese or Tamil followers they could tell me more about it. In all honesty with what I do know about it I feel sympathy for the Tamil, being oppressed by the Sinhalese and forced to rebel, but rebellions and revolutions are bloody and messy affairs and I can't condone any of the violence, especially since this is going to be a not-too-distant thing for a lot of people in Sri Lanka. It'd be like writing about the US Civil War in the 1880s.

Researching the war, you certainly feel sympathies for the Tamil people and understand their aims and desires for an independent state. Of course that doesn't excuse the acts of terrorism, massacres, and assassinations committed by the Tamil Tigers in the war. But that does also apply to the Sri Lankan and Indian military who committed numerous war crimes against the Tamils
