[Recipe Challenge] Apple Chocolate Cake! by mondscheinsonate on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

This is the first recipe for #Still-Life-Stills 's Monthly Recipe Challenge, which I have the pleasure to run!
So here's the trick:
Every month we will give you one recipe of any kind (bakery, meals, desserts, etc.) You will have one full month to cook the recipe yourself and take some awesome food still life photos of it!
You will be able to submit them into the Recipe Challenge folder of the current months and all will be featured in a journal at the end of the month!
Doesn't that sound awesome? :la:
Ready to rumble?

What you need:

175 g/ 6.2 oz butter, soft
175 g/ 6.2 oz powdered sugar
3 eggs of medium size
1 pack of vanilla sugar (contains 8g which is about a tablespoon of the powder)
1 tablespoon cinnamon powder
30 g/ 1.1 oz cacao powder
2 apples (depending on the percentage of apple you want to have in your cake)
175 g/ 6.2 oz wheat flour (you can practically use any kind of flour, for a gluten-free solution you might use gluten-free flours as well)
1/2 pack baking powder (about 7g)

I used a circular cake tin of 25cm diameter size.

How you prepare the dough:

:bulletblue: Using a hand mixer, stir the butter to a soft mass. Mix in the powder sugar spoon by spoon until both combines.
:bulletblue: Keep stirring and add each egg at a time. Mix the dough for about 20 seconds for each egg. This makes the mass more creamy and airy.
:bulletblue: Add vanillin, cinnamon and cacao and keep mixing.
:bulletblue: Add the flour and baking powder to the dough and start your final stir! :giggle:
:bulletblue: Peel the apples, remove the cores, and cut the apples into small cubes of about the size of a fingertip.
:bulletblue: Add apples to the dough and mix all carefully with a spoon.
:bulletblue: Add dough to a greased cake tin and spread even.

How you bake it:

:bulletgreen: 40-50 min.
:bulletgreen: preheat 180°C/ 356°F for convection ovens

or

non-preheat on level 3-4 for gas ovens.

:bulletblue: Let cool down after baking for a few minutes. Before serving, add a thin layer of powdered sugar on top of the cake. :la:

Food photography tip for this month:
Natural lighting looks great with most food still-lifes! Use overcast skies and natural backgrounds to make your photos look great and yummy!
