The Twilight Night Is Thin by Mouselemur on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

It was late in the afternoon, the sun sets early, so it's dusky. It's the perfect and favorite time of most Felines to be active. The Clouded Leopards especially - they'd slept away the day, basically, but they started running around playfull now. This is one of the cubs we saw earlier that year - still such a young look to him!

Species: Clouded Leopard (Nevelpanter)

Latin name: Neofelis Nebulosa

Originates from Southeast Asia.

Current status: Vulnerable

Did you know:

…They are also called Mainland Clouded Leopard to distinguish them from the Sunda Clouded Leopard.

…The hyoid bone of the Clouded Leopard is is ossified, making it possible for them to purr.

…Their hind limbs are longer than the front, to allow for increasing jumping and leaping abilities. Their ulna and radii are also not fused, contributing to a greater range of motion when climbing trees and stalking prey.

…They are solitary animals, known as rare, secretive, arboreal and nocturnal creatures of the dense forest.

…Their total population is estimated to be fewer than 10,000 mature individuals, ever decreasing. No single population s thought to number more than 1,000 individuals.

…The remaining forest areas are too small to ensure long-term persistence of Clouded Leopard populations, and they severely threatened by habitat loss due to large-scale deforestation. They are also the victiom of illegal pet trade and poaching; their bones, teeth and skin sold commersially.
