Description

With the good fortune of a relatively cloud-free sunrise, I got up early to try and take some photos of the famous Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo, New Zealand. This shot was taken with the 400mm telephoto lens, from halfway up the road leading to the church. The effect is to bring the distant mountains, illuminated by the rising sun, much closer to the church than they would otherwise appear. Despite the warm yellow colour of the sun, the air was bitterly cold, and the wind was blowing with near gale force. It was worth it. I think this is one of my favourite shots for the whole trip to NZ.
