Hey everybody Happy New Year, I know i've been somewhat inactive on this but starting next week I will be posting original comics with a few illustrations on the side. This illustration is based on chapter 24 of The DEAD AUTHORS podcast which an awesome podcast is hosted by HG Wells who is played by the great Paul F Tompkins. This podcast revolves around the idea that HG Wells travels throughout time searching for famous authors who he then brings to the present and interviews. What is amazing about this podcast is that not only do we get to peek into a mind of the authors crazy minds but most of the comedians who play the various authors come from great podcasts such as Comedy Bang Bang, Superego, and The Thrilling Adventure Hour.

As most of you can tell this is a Jersey Shore inspired illustration. What inspired me to create this Illustration was the way Jason Mantzoukas played Plato. This episode really cracked me up what was great about Mantzoukas's depiction of Plato was the dude/bro animal party animal vibe he adopted for Plato. The Germ of the idea to create this illustration came to me when I was listening to the episode I thought wouldn't it be great is there was a Jersey Shore type show but for the great thinkers with all of them partying and spewing philosophic thoughts ending in Bro and DTF and so it was born. Unlike other illustrations i've worked on it was easier to find Reference pics for this I chose to use an image from the opening titles of the show as inspiration. I aped the opening titles of the show to the T by placing Plato to the side of the illustration while placing smaller images of other actions that Plato did displayed right beside him just as they did in the show. I went so far as to also ape the style and atmosphere seen throughout out the show by using the instagram like filters and and Logo they use. When looking for reference for Plato what I decided to do was rather than try to look for scenes of his greatness use sculptures and paintings that depicted him and crop them in such a way that it seems there is more to the picture such as with the lower right picture where Plato is looking off pissed or the upper right where Plato seems to be talking to a friend. With the middle of the picture I decided to use the Parthenon in the background to give viewers who are not aware of PLATO some idea that he was at least a very important Greek Figure in history.
