Angel of Blood by NicolasRGiacondino on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Happy Wednesday, folks!

I'm a little bit upset that I don't get to do as many warm-ups as I'd like this week (or the past ones, for that matter), but work beckons and I can't overlook its importance. Luckily, most of that work comes in the form of long overdue commissions and projects, some of which I can show you all here.

As I said in my last update here in the Gallery, I'm going to be back into the Dark Millenium with a vengeance after a long stint without dabbling in the grim darknes of the far future. The above illustration being a testament to that, it was done for gentleman extraordinaire Arteaus and it depicts his character Hadrian son of Solus, Sanguinary Champion, Shield to the Host and second to the Lord of Angels of the first cohort of Sepharan.
I'll never get tired of drawing Blood Angels, I think mostly because their palette is one of my favourites, what with the reds and golds, which I exploited here to its fullest. I have noticed, however, that the general evolution of my work and especially lighting have made the different textures in this image blend much better than they would've a couple of years ago. There's more clarity in the golden surfaces and not everything shines, which was a problem I managed to identify and correct. I also love the character's expression, a mix between angelic and sadistic that I think all the sons of Sanguinius should have.

Hopefully you'll enjoy this one as usual and let me know what you think below!

See you tomorow, hopefully!

Nic.-
