SHOGUN KNIGHTS by NicolasRGiacondino on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Hi again, dear watchers and watcherettes!

Things have been hectic for me as usual, but I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to show you a quick look into an amazing project I've been very lucky to be involved in.

The awesome Mat Nastos contacted me about doing a collaboration in a book that he's wanted to do for some time. The premise: giant robot fights in the tradition of the old japanese animation/manga of the 70s and 80s such as Mazinger Z. How could I refuse? I was a huge fan of the style back in my childhood. Couple that with Mat's usual enthusiasm and passion and you have a very cool story which I hope my artwork can make justice to.
Another selling point for me was the fact that I'd be doing just pencils and he'd handle the inking. Usually, I pencil/ink/color my own pages, which can be a huge effort and very time-consuming considering all I have to take care of (including other projects and some very LONG overdue commissions!). Of course, this being the first time I let someone else ink my work, I was excited to see what the end result would look like and I couldn't be happier! Mat used to ink a lot for Marvel and DC back in the day and he hasn't lost his touch one bit.

You can check the progress of the pages over at Mat's FB page and get the latest news on the project. If all goes as planned, the book will be full-color and printed in an oversized format, ready for this September :D I'll be posting more pencils over here, as I know some of you like to see my roughs too.

As usual, let me know what you think and hope you all have an amazing week!

Nic.-
